Some good news!

Ok, I know I've been whining about my college counselor but she really came through for me today! I had been scheduled to take Math 412, History of Mathematics. The catalog said no equations, but a friend who had it scheduled before said she opened the syllabus and it was all pre-calc stuff. I would not be able to pass this class so I've been scrambling to try to get out of it. Now, because of all my starts and stops I have a convoluted type of transcript. I have already taken lower division math classes which National was counting for some other type of elective. This is what happens when you change schools and so forth....Anyway, my counselor was able to get the powers-that-be to accept a lower level math class in exchange for the graduate level class I had scheduled. I still have to take a 300 level math, but it is geared for teachers and has up through geometry (which I can do).

Oh, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders! The Library Research class I am taking is almost at an end and the Geography class I'm in has 2 more days. My next class is Personality Theory and that starts Monday. Wish me luck!

I think I forgot to say I'll walk in April of next year and then start the graduate program in July. It seems so far away but will go by quickly.

Just a few things...

Here is a self-portrait of Jessica. She took this last week. The picture of the Bougainvillea I took a few minutes ago. I just put it in this pot last weekend and hope to train it up the patio cover. You can see the pool in the background. When it is larger it will be stunning. Can't wait!!

I wanted to share the best recipe for Salmon Casserole. As I was making it for dinner I thought maybe someone else would enjoy the recipe.

1 can cream of celery soup (can be healthy request)
1 jar canned salmon
1/2 c. mayo (can be lowfat or nonfat)
1/4 c. milk (can be nonfat or even soy)
1/4 c. fresh grated parmesan cheese
1 can of peas (can use frozen instead, just thaw them first)
OR
steamed fresh asparagus (one bundle)
cooked egg noodles
chopped onion

Combine the soup mix and milk in small saucepan on stove until heated thoroughly. In large bowl mix the salmon, mayonnaise, peas or asparagus, onion, and egg noodles. Add the soup/milk mixture. Blend and put into large baking dish. Sprinkle grated cheese on top, and bake at 350 degrees for approx. 25 minutes.

I didn't put an amount on the onion, just use whatever you like. I have made it with green onion and that comes out well. I have also made it with asparagus and with peas. Both are wonderful! It's easiest just to use whatever is in season, although I probably wouldn't use broccoli. Fresh parmesan instead of canned is a must. Serve with green salad (spring mix already made up from the store) or garlic bread. I always have leftovers for our lunches the next day.

It's been asked if I'm coming up to Alaska this summer. I am not planning on it because one of the classes I have to take is on-site and is 4 days a week. I've been putting it off but it has come down to the wire and I must take it this summer. Summer is supposed to be the "vacation" from all our activities but we're really just as busy. Jessica is attending Girl Scout camp as a CIT again. This is the 2nd year in a 3 year program. She'll be gone for about 6 weeks. In addition, our school is starting a week early this year so next year we will all be done the Wednesday before Memorial weekend. Andrew is taking soccer referee classes and is going to Boy Scout camp again. The wrestling club he belongs to meets all summer so he will be busy too. I imagine that in the very near future it will be me visiting Alaska without the kids because we don't all seem to have the same time off. Grandma and Grandpa will be disappointed though. Anyway, in two years Jessica will be heading off to school, although we're hoping for a California school while she's hoping for a NYC school.

What a beautiful day!

These pictures were taken my darling daughter Jessica. It must have hit 90 today and the water temperature was 82. A bit cool for all but the brave! Bailey loves jumping in after her tennis ball and it's a great way for her to cool off. We've been planting like crazy and it is starting to show. These are just a few pictures, but there is so much color in the back yard!

Spring Break!

Rain, Rain, Go away! Come again another day!
It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring, he got into bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning.

Either way you slice it...it's raining. Call me pessimistic, but it figures the rain would start as soon as we have a break. Oh well, I took the opportunity to do some major house cleaning. I also did approx. 4 hours of homework today. The class this month is Geography. The class itself is not hard, there is just a lot of work for it.

Speaking of classes...the college counselor gave me some bummer news yesterday. I was hoping to double up on classes this summer in order to finish my BA by March. This would give me the required month off, April, so I could start work on my masters and receive the internship I would like to have. HOWEVER, my capstone class will not be offered until April and ends in May, which means that even if I double up, I will not be able to receive an internship in time for the school year to start. I have to take a month off between the ending of the BA and the beginning of the MA (in order for grades to post and the degree to be conferred); Plus I have to take 3 additional classes in order to be internship qualified. It is possible I might be able to start the internship late, but it's doubtful. I'll probably have to wait another full year, at which point I will be halfway through the next program. The only bright side is I won't have to double up on so many classes this summer. I'm still taking a full load, plus one, so it will be busy...just not super duper busy.

We're staying home for Easter this year. I think it's the first time, with the exception of when Andrew was weeks old. Of course the kids are getting Easter baskets, with chocolate bunnies. My friend Trish told me she had her kids pick out their own chocolate bunnies in Target the other day. I'm all for that. What do you put in Easter baskets for teenagers? Gift cards are out, clothes are out, expensive electronic toys are out. All that's left is candy. Good thing they went to the dentist today!

Beautiful Girl!

Jessica is going to a friend's sixteenth birthday party tonight. The invitation read "no jeans or t-shirts"...so, what's a girl to do? Shop! Of course I am biased, but isn't she gorgeous??

Andrew is camping this weekend with his Boy Scout troop. He will be back tomorrow afternoon. Joe worked on the back porch today getting it readied to be painted. We should have the backyard all put back together within a month. This is the end of an odyssey that began last summer while I was in Alaska. No need to bore you with the details, but we weren't able to use the yard at all, not even the pool, from August on.

I'm ending my Spring Break from one class, and beginning it for another. Of course my time off involves: dentist appts, orthodontist appts, wrestling club, soccer practice, one Girl Scout outing, meeting with my college counselor, lunch with friends, shoe shopping with Andrew, camping equipment shopping with Andrew...and the list goes on and on and on and on.....And, it's supposed to rain this week. We've had really sunny weather, a bit windy, but the flowers are blooming and the leaves are sprouting. It's a shame to go back to winter conditions, even for a day or two.
